Our Lent Course this year has been written by David Adam, who was vicar of Lindisfarne.
It is a course which aims to discover our abilities and the God-given powers that are ours. As David writes in the introduction:
“Lent is not a time for restricting yourself, but for throwing off restrictions and realising new liberties. The very word Lent means to lengthen, or to extend and that is what we aim to do.”
We meet on Wednesdays at 7.30pm in the Washburn Heritage Centre and will finish at 9.00pm, except for the meeting on 23rd March which is at Leathley Rectory. Each session can stand alone so don’t worry if you can’t make them all. Everyone is welcome, whether or not they usually go to church. Please come and share your thoughts and experiences.
The topics are: 16th March Temptation and Divided Loyalties 23rd March The Wilderness and Doubt 30th March The Bread of Life 6th April The Dangers of Holy Places 13th April The Powers of Good and Evil
But before Lent we are having a Pancake Party at the Washburn Heritage Centre on Shrove Tuesday, the 8th March, beginning at 12.30pm. On Ash Wednesday, March 9th.there will be a service at St. Oswald’s, Leathley at 7.30pm.
