26/02/10 Licensing of new Assistant Priest

Camilla Campling-Denton (right in the photo), our new Assistant Priest, was licensed by the Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Revd David James, at Leathley church on February 23rd.
The ecumenical service involved representatives of all the six Anglican churches in the benefice, from the two Methodist churches and from all the community organisations within the valley. A full Leathley church heard the Archdeacon of Bradford, David Lee, encourage us all to 'affirm each other's gifts' and to 'celebrate our oneness'. The reading from Ephesians Ch 4 tells us that 'to each one of us grace has been given. . . so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith.' The paper chains illustate all our local links.

Dedication of New Altar

New altar at Fewston Church

A most lovely new altar, made by local craftsman Ashley Cowell, has been given to Fewston Church by the Friends of Fewston Church. This is the final gift of the Friends who were set up in 1986 at a time of renewal and refurbishment and have made a huge contribution to the church over the last 23 years.
Yvonne Dale Winder, churchwarden, explained that she had shown Ashley Cowell a picture of the altar at Ripon Cathedral but Ashley was not sure that the design was appropriate. On a subsequent visit to the church he was inspired by the arches of the East Window and these are reflected in the solid oak altar which he has made. On seeing the finished altar for the first time Yvonne said that she was "absolutely overwhelmed" by it.
Bishop Colin commented "What a lovely peice of workmanship which pleases the eye as one walks up the aisle". He invited people to come and share communion at the altar "which is of no use unless we gather together at the Lord's Table".

11/05/09 Handover of Church Record

Sunday, May 10th saw the handover of the Fewston Church record by the Harrogate team of Church Recorders (which is sponsored by the Harrogate Design and Fine Arts Group and the Nidd Valley Decorative and Fine Arts Society). The group of volunteers recorded the contents of the church including items such as memorials, stonework, woodwork, textiles etc. All the material has been compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This was presented to the church during the service on the 10th.
Susan Behrens, for the group, told how many gifts to the church throughout its history, not only from local people but very often from visitors, bear testimony to the deep affection that many hold and have held for Fewston church.

The Flower Festival in May 2008
raised over £2,000 for the Washburn Heritage Centre, local charity Horticap, the Parochial Hall and church funds. For more click here.
