We are pleased to announce that the Rt Revd Nicholas Baines, Bishop of Leeds, has invited the Revd Tony Collins to support the Washburn Benefice during the interregnum. Tony was licensed to serve in the Washburn and Mid-Wharfe parishes by Archdeacon Bev Mason on December 10th.

Tony has sent this message to us all:

I am very excited and grateful to be able to offer some support to your Benefice during the vacancy.  I have already met with many of the Churchwardens and we have started exploring how we might develop governance, patterns of worship and bringing the parishes of the Benefice closer together in a way that will provide a really attractive and positive opportunity for an enthusiastic and mission focussed priest to take up the incumbency.

I am currently serving in the neighbouring Benefice of Dacre, Darley, Hartwith and Thornthwaite and had the great privilege of leading thr Benefice through a long vacancy, before our current incumbent was appointed.  In the past I was also able to support the United Benefice of Ripley, Markington, Burnt Yates, Bishop Thornton and South Stainley during a vacancy.  I have some understanding of the opportunities and challenges (perhaps they are the same thing) that rural multi-church benefices bring.

I live in Sawley with Julia, my wife.  I have four beautiful daughters who have all left home and in the last eighteen months I have collected two grandsons and one grand-daughter with one more on the way.  I am a self-supporting minister and am also employed full-time working for Saint Michael’s Hospice.

I am really looking forward to meeting you all and sharing in God’s mission in this wonderful area.
